Man Bear vs Lady Bear

The lovely fella with the big lungs and big hair that is Warren Mallia asked me to do a poster for a gig he is playing. And after promising him help in the illustration department last January after he played my acoustic fund raiser for me, it was about time that I delivered! He suggested I draw a man bear versus lady bear...I had no time to draw something so epic...so instead I came up with a far less impressive tug of war design haha! Far more 'me' I'd say :)

This Music Is My Life

Here's a poster I did for the lovely Mister Townsend...I like drawing houses lately it seems! (Above)

And this is the newest addition to the Caves merch stand! Some really awesome photography and layout by Minty, I helped out by hand writing the text for him. It took bloody ages but he's a good dude and has helped me lots!

You Are Here

All the fund raising finally paid off, we began preparing for the Brick Lane exhibition by discussing themes, names and ideas for the identity. We finally decided on the name 'You Are Here.' Here are my submissions, but we ended up going for a poster that combined my type with an illustration by Rhi Pardoe and Dave Long, see the final poster here! We ended up making badges from the building illustrations of my poster.

Arboretum

My design was chosen by my peers for the brochure and poster design of our degree show. Here are some photos of my exhibition piece too including the no matter where we go zine, some hand made paper buildings and an illustrated journey between homes.

Acoustic Associations

We are currently doing our best in my illustration class to raise money for an end of year exhibition in Brick Lane, London. I organised and promoted my own acoustic gig in the hope of contributing to the fund. All three acts kindly agreed to play for free if I covered travel costs, Warren Mallia (of Attika State) from Bristol, Livi and Ped & Joe from Cardiff all played amazingly, you should check them out! At the gig we also sold illustration prints, auctioned off original artwork (with a painting and necklace kindly donated by Leanne Ellis) aaaand we held a charity cupcake sale.

In total we raised around £300 on the door, £100 for posters and £200 in the silent auction with a further £120 for charity from the cake stall alone!!!

Thanks to everyone who helped out especially Leanne, Warren, Livi, Laura, Ped, Joe, Adam, Steve and Anna. Oh, and everyone who baked scrummy cakes!

Here's the poster I did for it!

Holidays are coming!

Here's the next Face Off flyer with all the December dates. I've been doing an elective in Illustrator so decided to try out a flyer working purely digital for once. So this is very different to what I normally do it but I like it :)

Life Moves

RVIVR recently played an all dayer in Swansea with one hell of a good line up of support. They were amazing, as were the support bands, but sadly the turn out was a bit piss poor. If you missed it for no good reason then you're an idiot because seriously, they were so fucking good. Anyway, here's the poster I designed for it which includes an illustration of Lala the penguin (if you don't know what I'm talking about click this link and check this shit out!!)

I also baked some banana cupcakes to sell as this was supposed to be a charity gig. I didn't charge for ingredients and the cakes were priced with a suggested donation of £1. I made £26 for charity in total despite not even making 26 cakes! They went down a storm, people were really generous and I was so proud of my achievement, however little it was!! So thanks to those who bought a cupcake! Also, thanks to my housemates who bought me this gorgeous cupcake stand for my birthday a few months earlier, I definitely think it aided my selling!!

Face Off Flyer 2!

Nik was pleased with the previous Face Off flyer and the Hobos flyer that I'd designed so came back to me to produce a fresh Face Off flyer for Freshers Fortnight. He was happy for me to rework a previous cassette design that I'd showed him so it didn't take me too long to get this one finished. I edited the text spilling out of the cassette, scanned it in and did the rest digitally (colour, placement and text.)

Hobos Vintage

After brain storming with Nik, he decided he wanted me to try incorporating all three decades of clothing that Hobos the store stocks (60s, 70s and 80s.) He also wanted me to use the orange, yellow, blue and red that had previously been used in a Hobos logo. So i went back to the drawing board and tried to think of iconic things to sketch for each decade that would be then split into three sections on the (plus a fourth for the name and details.)
A Mary Quant dress, roller disco shoes and Space invaders aliens were what I eventually decided on so I sketched everything out and collated it all digitally. Apparently they were a success at Freshers Fair so Nik was extremely happy with the outcome.

Hobos Flyer Idea

Nik from Hobos, Swansea, a vintage fashion store, asked me to come up with a flyer design for freshers fair for the store that would appeal to students. I struggled to think of a suitable design to sell the store as it was difficult to sum up what the store offers as they stock clothes from 3 different decades. I thought a cassette may be a good idea as they still relate to young people today but are also representative of the past. I sketched out a cassette and messed around with the colour but before I looked into finalising the design I wanted to check Nik was okay with it.
Despite the fact that he liked the sketch, he thought it gave the impression of a music store not a clothing one so we decided to drop it and use it for a Sin City flyer instead. I still liked the rough visuals though so thought I'd share them.

Turn up the Radio, Turn up the Sound

The lovely Trev of Swansea Collective asked me to design a poster for a gig back in September. After doing the tiger for the last one his only request was that I do something 'cute.' I had some ideas to incorporate Anna, Reza and Ben of Brothers as cute bunnies into the design but I decided to draw a kangaroo instead lol. Again, I couldn't tell you why other than the fact my sister quite liked the idea of a kangaroo! I gave him a cheeky little neck scarf as Ben was wearing one the first time I saw them play.

Love The Music, Hate The Kids

Trev asked me to do another Swansea Collective poster and of course I said yes. It was for The Computers gig coming up in August so I decided I wanted to use a white animal in the design to coincide with the band's love of wearing all white (considering Trev hates red I had to avoid using that colour). I chose a white tiger, like most of my other posters, I sketched it, went round it in fineliner, hand wrote the text and then composed it all digitally. Here's what I came up with...

The gig's going to be awesome and it'll be my 21st birthday weekend so be sure to come! Also, Men are amazing...check them out! I LOVE MEN!

Face Off

I was commissioned to design a poster for the Indie Room of Face Off an alternative night held every Friday in Sin City, Swansea. The guys wanted a new 'look' that people would begin to associate with the night. They wanted a style that would fit with the alternative music that they played but gave me complete freedom with the design.
The idea I came up with involved using footwear commonly associated with alternative music in the design. I began by sketching out some legs/feet...

Then I edited the scan to get a sketchy but bold outline...
Then I coloured the original drawing with markers and scanned it again...
Here's the other feet I repeated the process above with...

I arranged the illustration digitally so that the bold outline line framed the colour version. Then I made up the rest of the flyer as I went along. I drew out a header...
Here's the final design...

p-p-p-pick up a...poster

here are some posters that i've done recently, which i'm pretty damn proud of if i'm honest...

Swansea Collective Poster (thanks to Trev for giving me the opportunity to do this).
i was given the freedom to do ANYTHING i wanted with this poster (except use red :P). i would normally struggle not being given a clear idea of what to do but fair play i bloody love that eagle.
i currently have an A0 copy of this in my room! stoked!

this poster was for a fundraiser in sigma that some photography friends asked me to whip up. again, i was given no brief , my only artistic direction from kirsty and emma was 'make it look good yeh?' haha! in the end only the illustrations were used because alot of the details changed.

i liked the illustration but was a bit bummed with the result of the rubbish map that i drew haha! still, it got used (thanks Phil). was pretty awesome seeing it blown up to A0 on the front of 'old Sigma'

i'm sure there will be many more posters to come, contact me if you need one done :)
